If you’re in the market for a mid-sized SUV, the GMC Acadia and Buick Enclave offer two great options worth considering. With strong engines, a decent amount of cargo space, and three rows of seating, there’s a lot to like about both these vehicles. Engine and Performance

The Acadia’s base engine is a turbocharged four-cylinder unit capable of putting out 228 horsepower. For those of you looking for a touch more power for highway driving, you can upgrade to a V-6 that puts out 310 horsepower.

The only engine available with the Enclave is a 3.6-liter V-6 that churns out 310 horsepower. Both the Acadia and Enclave are available with all-wheel drive, making them a good choice if you plan on tackling rough terrain.

The Acadia has a slight edge over the Enclave when it comes to fuel economy, but the Enclave’s mpg numbers are still good for the class. In its base engine, the Acadia manages 22 mpg on city roads and 29 mpg on the highway. The larger V-6 under the hood is good for 19 mpg on city roads and 27 mpg on the highway. As for the Enclave, its numbers are 18 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway.

On the other hand, the Enclave outperforms the Acadia with its towing capacity. Buick’s mid-sized SUV can pull up to 5,000 pounds when it’s properly equipped, more than the 4,000 pounds that the Acadia can cope with.

Seating and Cargo

Inside the cabin, both the Acadia and Enclave have three rows of seats for up to seven people. The Enclave seats seven with second-row captain’s chairs, while the Acadia offers seven seats if you opt for a second-row bench seat. With second-row captain’s chairs, the Acadia’s capacity drops to six people.

The Enclave offers you slightly more cargo storage than the Acadia. Behind the third row, you’ll find 23 cubic feet of storage space in the Enclave, compared to about 12 cubic feet in the Acadia. The Enclave also has more overall cargo-carrying capacity. With the two rear rows folded flat, the Enclave boasts around 97 cubic feet of space, while the Acadia has 79 cubic feet.

Infotainment Tech

Whether you opt for the Acadia or Enclave, you’ll be getting an SUV with a strong selection of infotainment features. Both vehicles have an 8-inch infotainment screen and six-speaker stereo in their base setup. Other features include a wireless hot spot so you can stay connected wherever you are, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to link your phone with your infotainment system, and BlueTooth connectivity.

Both the Enclave and Acadia offer similar optional infotainment add-ons, such as premium stereos and a navigation system. In the Acadia, you can have a rear-seat infotainment system, which gives your kids or anyone else riding in the back their own infotainment screen to watch their favorite shows.

Driver Safety

Both the Acadia and Enclave also offer a broad suite of safety features to help you and your passengers avoid accidents while you’re on the road. They feature forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, and automatic emergency braking in their base safety packages. When you hit the highway, the lane keep assist and lane departure warning systems make your job behind the wheel a lot easier.

If you’re maneuvering your Enclave or Acadia into a tight parking spot, you can rely on the standard front and rear parking sensors to guide you. The rear cross traffic alert also comes in handy if you’re reversing out of a parking spot and need to be alerted to oncoming traffic.

Another popular feature available with both vehicles is the Teen Driver mode. This setting allows you to place restrictions on how your Acadia or Enclave is used. For instance, you can put a limit on how loud the car stereo can be turned up or restrict the speed limit.

There are a couple optional safety features worth mentioning for both vehicles. One is adaptive cruise control, which can adjust your speed on the highway to help you maintain an appropriate distance from other drivers ahead of you. The other is the surround-view parking camera. The camera provides you with an aerial view of your vehicle while you’re parking, allowing you to check for hazards from any angle.

Trims

There are four trims to choose from if you’re buying the Acadia: SLE, SLT, AT4, and Denali. The base trim is very well equipped. However, if you plan on hitting the trails, the AT4 trim is the one to go for. It has standard all-wheel drive and an off-road-tuned suspension. Hill descent control and premium cloth upholstery round out its features.

The range-topping Denali is a great choice if you want maximum luxury in your cabin. It adds leather upholstery, heated rear seats, and a heated steering wheel.

The Enclave is available in three trims: Essence, Premium, and Avenir. The Premium trim gets ventilated and massaging front seats, the surround-view parking camera, and heated rear seats.

The bar menu includes four different kinds of mimosas and six different bloody mary cocktails for you to try. You could always choose the traditional versions of each, but if you’re looking to be more adventurous, we recommend the Blueberry Lavender mimosa and the Black Pepper bloody mary. Also, Tupelo Honey is known for their Biscuits for a Cause that not only taste amazing but also help fundraise for Tupelo employees who are in need. Other must-try items on the menu are the Classic Chicken & Waffles, the All I ‘Avo’ Wanted Bennie, and the Mountain Blueberry Griddle.

The Bungalow Lakehouse

If you and your friends and family are nature lovers, brunch outdoors and lakeside in Sterling at The Bungalow Lakehouse. The restaurant, which has a rustic, old Victorian country club feel, serves brunch on Saturdays and Sundays only. The wait for the weekend will be worth it for their breakfast pizza, featuring scrambled eggs, applewood smoked bacon, cheddar and Monterey Jack cheeses, and sausage gravy. 

We also recommend you try the Chesapeake eggs Benedict, made with crabcakes Maryland-style with real crab, and served with sauteed spinach, a toasted English muffin, old bay hollandaise, and fruit and home fries on the side. There is a flight of vodka mimosas available that you may enjoy, and there’s always the classic mimosa if you’re looking for a bubbly refreshing drink to go with your brunch.

Silver Diner

Silver Diner is a regional chain with 10 locations in Virginia. The founders and staff have a strong commitment to their customers, providers, and community, which includes promoting health and wellness. For example, the restaurant raises funds for nutrition and fitness programs in schools. You can also see this philosophy come to life through their menu, which offers a variety of healthier options to cater to plant-based, vegetarian, gluten-free, and heart-healthy lifestyles.

We recommend you try the Avocado Toast & Eggs, which the diner serves on sourdough bread with hemp hearts, olive oil, microgreens, and cage-free eggs. If you’re craving a sweet brunch instead, go for the Caramel French Toast, which Silver Diner makes with challah bread. Choose among two varieties each of classic mimosas, deluxe mimosas, or bloody mary cocktails, or sip on a Baileys Cold Brew. While brunch is available all day, every day, you can enjoy cocktails only on the weekends at Silver Diner.

Palette 22

Palette 22 in Arlington has a weekend bottomless brunch special for $28.22. This means you may order nearly anything you like on the brunch menu. The restaurant specializes in tapas-style small plates, which means the vibe at Palette 22 is made especially for friends and family to enjoy the shareable, globally inspired dishes. There are plenty of tasty options to customize your meal, so this special is a local favorite. 

For brunch, we recommend you try the French Toast Sticks, made with brioche, and the Arepas Benedict, which comes with bacon, avocado, chipotle hollandaise, and a poached egg. Palette 22 also has options to add a bellini, mimosa, or bloody mary to your bottomless brunch for $4.22. Bottomless carries over into the restaurant’s lunch and dinner menu as well.

Hair of the Dog

This restaurant specializes in breakfast food and drinks. They have six mimosa varieties you can enjoy individually or as part of a flight taster. Bloody marys are also available as a flight, where you get to choose three out of six varieties. You can also try their three varieties of eggs Benedicts as part of a flight. It’s the reason some of the restaurant’s patrons return to Hair of the Dog often. If you’re not that hungry, start with the Pleasure Point eggs Benedict, made with poached eggs, roasted peppers, goat cheese, spinach, and hollandaise on an English muffin.

Other interesting dishes we recommend you try are the Betty White, which is a regular eggs, bacon, and toast breakfast that comes with a shot of whiskey; the French Toast, served with bourbon maple syrup; and the Carnivore Omelet, which features Andouille sausage, bacon, ham, and delicious Gouda cheese. If you are vegetarian or are just looking for something lighter, you might try the Vegetable Omelet instead. Both of them come with your choice of stone-ground grits, cheese grits, or home fries. This eclectic menu is a must-see and must-try.

Bistro L’hermitage

Our list could not be complete without a local favorite, Bistro L’hermitage. We recommend you try the Bistro Omelet or the Oeuf Benedict a la Norvegienne (eggs Benedict with smoked salmon and sauteed spinach) during brunch on the weekends.
