You’ll get up to 310 horsepower and 271 lb-ft of torque with this engine, which is also available for the SLT.

The four-cylinder engine will help to preserve fuel economy and offers up to an EPA-estimated 25 mpg combined, while the V-6 gives you more power should you need to haul a trailer or boat. The AT4 trim level offers some appeal for those who travel off-road with all-wheel drive, all-terrain tires, and other highly capable performance options. You can also add all-wheel drive on the SLE, SLT, and Denali trim levels to enhance performance in various road and weather conditions.

Comfort and Interior Styling

A few tweaks have been added to the 2023 GMC Acadia to offer a more comfortable ride for you and your passengers. With the SLT trim level, you get a new steering wheel design with controls for cruise control and your audio system. The SLT and AT4 will come with cloth upholstery standard, and the AT4 allows for the addition of leather.

To compare, the 2022 Acadia Denali features a 3.6-liter V-6 engine with 310 horsepower and 271 pound-feet of torque. This engine has active fuel management, variable valve timing, spark ignition direct injection, and a variable displacement oil pump that delivers performance without sacrificing fuel economy. The stop/start feature on the V-6 engine also lets you enjoy fuel savings on the Denali. The same electronically controlled nine-speed automatic transmission is mated to the V-6.

The Denali also comes standard with front-wheel drive, which can be traded for all-wheel drive to provide more control in various weather and road conditions. With the trailering package, the Denali can tow up to 4,000 pounds, letting you bring along all the toys for a weekend of family adventures.

Both trims offer StabiliTrak electronic control system with traction control that automatically enhances control by adjusting the engine torque and brakes to keep you on your intended path. This traction control also detects slippage, especially on snowy or wet roads, and reduces engine power or applies brake pressure to help you maintain control. You also get four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes, dual-outlet exhaust, and ride and handling suspension. Traction select lets you choose from Normal, Snow, Sport, and Trailer/Tow modes on the front-wheel-drive powertrain, while the all-wheel drive has 4×4, 2×4, Sport, Off-Road, and Trailer/Tow modes.

Slide into the 2022 GMC Acadia SLT and you’ll notice that the interior is designed for the comfort and convenience of drivers and passengers alike. Occoquan Bay National Wildlife Refuge

The Occoquan Bay National Wildlife Reserve is found where the Occoquan and Potomac meet. This refuge is home to many migratory birds as they seek an escape from the bustling city life around them. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service started this refuge in 1998 to provide a natural habitat for endangered species and migratory birds. It offers forest, grassland, and marsh habitat for various waterfowl, raptors, and songbirds. Occoquan Bay National Wildlife Refuge is home to 77 species of damselflies and dragonflies, 79 species of butterflies, and over 200 species of birds.

You can enjoy the sanctity and peace of this one-square-mile refuge when you visit 13950 Dawson Beach Rd. in Woodbridge. Hours are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. April 1 through September 30, closing at 5 p.m. the rest of the year.

Leesylvania State Park

Leesylvania State Park is a 556-acre park located at 2001 Daniel K. Ludwig Drive in Woodbridge. They are open to the public from 6 a.m. to a half-hour after sunset Monday through Friday, opening at 5 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday. This state park is found on the tidal shores of the Potomac and is registered with the National Register of Historic Landmarks. In 1608, Captain John Smith came through the area on his discovery voyage. Leesylvania has many water and land activities such as boating, fishing, hiking, and picnicking.

You’ll find a universally accessible fishing pier so everyone can enjoy casting the day away.  Leesylvania also has a visitor center with a gift shop, boat launch, a boat storage area, store, and snack bar. You can even rent a kayak or canoe to get out on the water for the day. There’s also a 20-station fitness trail for those who want to add a little something extra to their hike.

Rippon Lodge Historic Site

As one of the oldest residential structures in Prince William County, the Rippon Lodge Historic Site opened to the public in 2007. The lodge is registered on the National Register of Historic Places and is also a member of the Historic House Museum Consortium of Metropolitan Washington, D.C. The consortium comprises over 40 house museums across Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia.

You can take a virtual tour of the Rippon Lodge Historic Site online, but the in-person tour is much better if you’re in the area. Tours are available year-round at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., and 3 p.m. The lodge grounds are open from sunrise to sunset, and you can make reservations to enjoy a special luncheon while visiting the Rippon Lodge Historic Site. Lunches are served either picnic style or indoors and are very popular with visitors.

The site is 43 acres of formal gardens, walking trails, and the Atkinson and Blackburn Family cemeteries. The house’s history began in 1747 when Richard Blackburn built the home. Take your time to enjoy the grounds, gardens, trails, views of the Potomac, and bird watching during your visit to the Rippon Lodge Historic Site at 15520 Blackburn Rd. in Woodbridge.

Potomac Mills

Potomac Mills, Virginia’s largest outlet mall featuring over 200 stores, is located at 2700 Potomac Mills Circle in Woodbridge. While you’ll find plenty of shopping opportunities in this mega outlet mall, there are other things to do, as well. ZavaZone is a multi-attraction indoor adventure park located in Potomac Mills. At ZavaZone, you can enjoy the ninja course, zip lines, ropes course, and trampolines from noon to 8 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday, until 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and until 7 p.m. on Sunday.

AMC Potomac Mills 18 is also found inside the outlet mall, featuring 18 screens and a concession stand with a fantastic selection. You can enjoy boneless wings, chicken tenders, artisan pepperoni flatbread, bacon chicken mac, a bacon ranch burger, a chipotle chicken melt, and more. They also have a warm brownie sundae, mega milkshake, fries, and onion rings. Of course, you can still get freshly-popped movie theater popcorn, candy, and sodas for your movie enjoyment.

There’s a taste for just about every palate or craving at Potomac Mills.

Round 1 Amusement & Bowling is another great place to visit inside Potomac Mills. There is no doubt about it: road trips are the ultimate adventure. To make sure the whole trip goes smoothly, here are some tips to take into consideration before and after you hit the road.

Clean Your Car

There’s no doubt you’ll pick up wrappers, receipts, and more along the way, so you’ll be much better off if you clean out all this junk from your car before you head out. There’s nothing better than getting into a clean car, from the freshly vacuumed floor to the empty door pockets and clean cup holders. You won’t regret taking the time to clean everything out before you get started and add more junk to the pile.

Get Your Vehicle Checked

Bring your car to the shop for a complete once-over before leaving on a long road trip. Have the mechanic check everything from the tires to the oil and the battery. If you’re headed someplace warm, you should also have the air conditioning checked. You don’t want to drive into 90-degree temperatures and realize that your a/c needed a charge.

Come Up With a Plan

It’s always a good idea to have a plan and to work it out with your fellow passengers. Do you want to take your time getting to your destination and see some sights along the way, or do you need to get somewhere as fast as possible? Make sure you are all on the same page.

The best way to ensure you never run out of gas or electric power is to fill up or charge up every time you stop. If you always have a full tank or battery, you won’t run into any problems if you have to drive through an area where there are no gas stations. 

Avoid Rush Hour Traffic

If you can, plan your route to avoid rush hour traffic, especially in cities. Another important tip is to avoid dinner and lunchtimes if you stop for food. You don’t want to waste time on your trip sitting in traffic or waiting for a table. Eat meals before or after busy times, and travel during the slower times on the highway. It’s easy to avoid traffic jams with a GPS with live traffic information. If you do find yourself in a situation where the traffic gets backed up, make sure you have WAZE on your phone to help with navigation. 

Book Attractions Ahead

If there are certain attractions you want to see along the way, book your tickets ahead of time. Depending on where you go and what time of year it is, many attractions will sell out. Having tickets will keep you on track and ensure that you don’t miss your must-sees.

Make sure to document your trip by taking lots of pictures along the way. When you’re telling friends about what you saw, you’ll want to be able to show them. When you look back on the trip a few years from now, having the pictures to go with the memories will bring it to life. 

Prepare for Extreme Weather

Whether you’re traveling in the winter when you could run into a snowstorm or in the summer or spring when you could encounter thunderstorms and heavy rain, be prepared. Pack the right type of clothing for the weather, and make sure you have extra clothes if you need to change into something dry. 

Bring chains if your road trip takes you through snowy areas, and make sure your vehicle not only has good tires but snow tires if you need them.
