As Valentine’s Day approaches, you may be thinking about how to celebrate this special day in the nation’s capital. If you’d like to plan a unique yet romantic occasion for you and your loved one, Washington, D.C., has several lively and exciting opportunities in which to celebrate this day of love. The team at Koons Woodbridge Buick GMC has put together this brief guide featuring five different ways to spend Valentine’s Day with your sweetheart. All you need to do is decide which one you and your partner will enjoy the most.

Paint Your Pet

Celebrate Valentine’s Day with your significant other by planning a Paint Your Pet date night at Whoof on the Wharf. Both of you can bring a favorite photo of your pet and leave with a truly unique and beautiful painting of your furry friend. Be sure to send Whoof a photo ahead of time and they’ll get the canvas and painting supplies ready. Team members are available to help however you need throughout the entire evening.

The staff at Whoof can offer recommendations for different color schemes and patterns and assist you in adding some special touches like hearts or flowers. Snacks and beverages will be provided or you can bring your own. Whoof will also be donating 20% of the painting class proceeds to one of the local Washington, D.C., animal welfare charities. This painting workshop is being held on Monday, February 14, from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Whoof on the Wharf in Edgewater, Maryland.

Attend a Virtual Cakepop Class

You and your partner can learn how to make cakepops with a virtual cakepop class hosted by Baked by Yael. For 45 to 60 minutes, this Valentine’s Day class will teach you how to mix, assemble, and decorate your very own cakepops. The registration fee includes a home cakepop kit, which you can pick up curbside or have delivered to your home. The kit includes everything you need to make these delicious sweet desserts, including baked cake, frosting, candy melts, glitter, sprinkles, sticks, and a cake pop drying stand. Choose from vanilla, chocolate, gluten-free chocolate, or vegan chocolate cake.

Registration is $39.95, and for an additional $25, Baked by Yael will send an extra cakepop kit. An email will be sent to you 24 to 48 hours prior to the class with details for using Zoom video conferencing so you can join in on the virtual cakepop workshop.

Ice Skating at The Wharf

For a classic romantic way to spend Valentine’s Day, treat your date to an evening at Washington, D.C.’s, only ice skating rink at The Wharf. Bring your own skates or rent them at the rink. While gliding together on the ice, you can enjoy some breathtaking views of the water, the monuments, and some of the most beautiful sunsets you’ve ever seen.

Treat yourselves to a hot beverage like coffee or hot cocoa to stay warm. When you’re both worn out from skating, you can stop for dinner at a nearby restaurant or do some window-shopping at the adjacent retail shops. The price per person to ice skate is $12 and skate rentals are $6 a pair. The rink is closed Mondays and Tuesdays but is open Wednesdays through Fridays from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m., Saturdays from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m., and Sundays from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Visit the Capital Wheel

Have you ever seen the Potomac River from 180 feet in the air? Now you can when you visit the Capital Wheel. While you and your spouse or partner are comfortably seated in a climate-controlled gondola, you’ll enjoy waterfront views of Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia. Be sure to watch for the Washington Monument, Masonic Temple of Alexandria, and much more.

For an evening you’re sure to remember, choose the VIP Experience. You and three other guests, if you’re enjoying a double date on Valentine’s Day, will ride in the National Harbor One VIP Gondola that includes leather bucket seats, Amazon Alexa technology, interior lighting, and a glass floor. You’ll also receive a photo package worth $20.

General admission tickets are $15 per person, $13.50 for seniors and military personnel, and $11.25 for children 12 and under. Tickets for the VIP Experience are $50 per person.

Attend a Premier Dinner Cruise

Another remarkable option for Valentine’s Day is a romantic dinner cruise on the Potomac River. On this three-hour cruise, you can indulge in a three-course meal and spend the evening appreciating the magnificent views of the city. From the river, you’ll be able to see national monuments like the Lincoln Memorial, Thomas Jefferson Memorial, and Arlington National Cemetery. You may also spot the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, United States Naval Research Laboratory, Old Town Alexandria in Virginia, and the Woodrow Wilson Memorial Bridge.

Visit the observation deck for some fresh night air or spend some time enjoying the live music and dancing. Both captain and crew will greet you as arrive. Plus, you’ll have a chance to commemorate the evening with a special cruise photograph.

The Odyssey is a modern dining ship with three elegantly decorated glass atrium dining rooms that offer comfortable seating and large picture windows. The three-course dinner begins with a tasting trio of roasted summer vegetable salad, rock shrimp spheres, and whipped goat cheese. Choose from delicious entrees such as crab and mussel gratin, maple mustard glazed chicken, cauliflower steak, or steak and lobster tail. Dessert includes a selection of extravagant sweets like Odyssey’s signature bread pudding, mountain berry shortcake, or chocolate decadent cake.
