The 2023 GMC Yukon has five available trims: SLE, SLT, AT4, Denali, and Denali Ultimate. On the base SLE, you get 18-inch wheels, body-color door handles, a manual liftgate, black assist steps, and body-colored heated power outside mirrors. You also get roof-mounted roof rails, deep-tinted glass, LED exterior lighting, and rain-sensing windshield wipers. The SLT features 20-inch polished aluminum wheels, bright chrome bodyside moldings, and a hands-free power liftgate.

The AT4 trades the wheels out for 20-inch machined aluminum wheels with Carbon Gray Metallic accents, all-terrain tires, body-color heated power outside mirrors with auto-dimming on the driver’s side, and a front fascia with a high approach angle. The Denali goes for 20-inch multi-dimensional polished aluminum wheels and satin chrome bodyside moldings. The Denali Ultimate upgrades you with 22-inch bright machined Denali Ultimate wheels with bright chrome accents, dark paint, and Vader chrome accents featuring lower front fascia and fog lights.

Powerful Performance

One indicating factor of towing capacity is the engine. GMC offers three engines for the 2023 Yukon. The standard engine for the SLE, SLT, and AT4 is a 5.3-liter V-8 that delivers 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque. The Denali and Denali Ultimate feature a 6.2-liter V-8 for 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. All trims have an available 3.0-liter Duramax diesel engine option to get 277 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. All three engines are mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission for a seamless ride every time.

Performance features include a 3.23 rear-axle ratio, four-wheel anti-lock brakes, hill-start assist, a mechanical limited-slip differential, StabiliTrak electronic stability control system with traction control, trailering equipment, and trailer sway control. Rear-wheel drive is standard on the SLE, SLT, Denali, and Denali Ultimate, with the standard four-wheel drive of the AT4 optional on the other trims. The four-wheel drive provides better traction control over various surfaces, including off-road trail riding.

Towing and Payload

Depending on the trim, engine, and whether you go with the front-wheel or four-wheel drive, the 2023 Yukon can tow up to 8,400 pounds when properly equipped. The Yukon has an available National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHT) Max Trailering package that adds the ProGrade Trailering system and an enhanced cooling radiator to improve trailering. Here’s a breakdown of the towing capacities you can expect with and without the NHT Max Trailering package:

  • 5.3-liter V-8, rear-wheel drive: 7,900 pounds.
  • 5.3-liter V-8, rear wheel drive with NHT Max Trailering package: 8,400 pounds.
  • 5.3-liter V-8, four-wheel drive: 7,700 pounds.
  • 5.3-liter V-8, four-wheel drive with NHT Max Trailering package: 8,200 pounds.

If you select the 6.2-liter V-8, your maximum towing capacity drops to 8,200 pounds, while the 3.0-liter Duramax diesel offers a maximum towing capacity of 8,100 pounds.

The 2023 Yukon features a maximum payload capacity of 1,890 pounds, depending on the engine, drivetrain, and NHT Max Trailering package.

Max Trailering Package

If you want to tow anything with your 2023 GMC Yukon, you need to add the Max Trailering package, available on all trims except the AT4, where it’s a standard feature. The Max Trailering package includes:

  • Two-speed transfer case on all four-wheel-drive models.
  • Heavy-duty cooling system.
  • Trailer brake controller to help you adjust the brakes on your trailer.

You can also opt for the Enhanced Trailering Technology package, which includes additional exterior cameras that allow you to monitor your trailer from inside the Yukon, along with all the features of the Max Trailering package. The Enhanced Trailering Technology package is available on the AT4, Denali, and Denali Ultimate.

ProGrade Trailering System

You can also upgrade your 2023 GMC Yukon with the ProGrade Trailering system, which is standard on the Denali Ultimate. This system includes:

  • Hitch Guidance with Hitch View. A rearview camera with zoom capabilities and dynamic guidelines helps you when hooking up your trailer, so you get it right the first time.
  • In-vehicle trailer app. You can monitor your trailer’s activity, including Trailer Theft Detection, plus get programmable brake settings and a pre-departure checklist on your smartphone.
  • Trailer side blind zone alert. This feature is available on all trims except the SLE to alert you to vehicles in the next lane that may be in your blind spot.
