The Buick Encore GX is a five-person, extra-small crossover SUV that can get 30 miles per gallon on city driving and 32 mpg on the highway. It has over 50 cubic feet of cargo space with rear seats folded down, which means you have plenty of room for hauling goods, and even the front passenger seat can be folded flat so you can fit longer items like surfboards or skis. The Buick Encore GX comes in three trim options with more features and a higher price as they go up. The base trim is the Preferred, the Select sits in the middle, and at the top of the line is the Essence.

In all trims, you can choose front or all-wheel drive to suit your needs. The Encore GX has a turbocharged 1.2-liter three-cylinder engine which gives you 137 horsepower, and 162 pound-feet of torque. This engine comes with a continuously variable automatic transmission (CTV). Or, you can upgrade to a turbocharged 1.3-liter three-cylinder which gets you to 155 hp, 174 lb-ft of torque with this engine. It is paired to a CVT on front-wheel-drive models, while AWD versions get a nine-speed automatic transmission. All versions of the Encore GX are 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot capable, so you can stay connected wherever you go.

Prices start at MSRP $24,200 for the FWD Preferred base trim, and go up to $30,600 for the Essence with AWD and the larger engine. The Select starts at $26,995 for FWD and $28,995 for AWD. Even at the base level, the Buick Encore GX is more expensive than similarly sized SUVs, but this is because it's been fitted out with quality materials and is Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility, putting it ahead of its competitors in convenience and adaptability. If you want a smaller, upscale SUV this might be just the car you've been looking for.

The base Preferred model comes standard with a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and cloth/imitation-leather combination upholstery. Its Ecotec 1.2L Turbo engine can be upgraded to 1.3L in the AWD version. Some standard features include 18-inch aluminum wheels, Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM Satellite Radio, 8-inch Diagonal Buick Infotainment System, Buick QuietTuning Technology, and the Buick Driver Confidence package which includes Automatic Emergency Braking and Lane Keep Assist. While further additions can be configured such as a 10-way power driver seat with power lumbar, adaptive cruise control, hitch for trailering, a body-colored grille, and black roof options.

Exterior paint options include nine different colors, starting with the base of Summit White. Upgrade for a range of metallic options, like Dark Moon Blue Metallic, Burnished Bronze Metallic, and the eye-catching Black Currant Metallic. Upgrade one final step if you want the White Frost Tricoat. The two interior color schemes are Ebony and Whisper Beige, both come with ebony interior accents and cloth with leatherette seat trim. You can choose from a variety of packages with additional safety, comfort, appearance, and sports options, such as the Interior Protection Package with integrated cargo liner, all-weather floor liners, and sport pedal kit.

Select is the middle of the three trim options and has all the features of the Preferred, plus more. The FWD version comes standard with the 1.2L engine, but can be upgraded to the 1.3L, both with the continuously variable automatic transmission. If you opt for the AWD, it has the 1.3L engine paired with the nine-speed transmission. The Select comes with 18-inch machined aluminum wheels with High Gloss Dark Android pockets, which is an upgrade from the Preferred. Roof-mounted side rails come standard, as well as the Buick Infotainment System with Navigation and 8-inch diagonal color touch-screen.

The Select can also be fitted with a panoramic tilt-sliding power moonroof. The wheels can be upgraded to 18-inch Medium Android High Gloss wheels with chrome inserts as part of the Buick Experience Package. The Advanced Technology Package includes HD surround vision which uses multiple cameras to let you see the area around you which is helpful for backing and parking, and the head-up display which projects information into your line of sight so you can keep your eyes on the road. You can also add an SD card reader to this version.

This top-of-the-line trim comes with the same engine and transmission options as the Select, but with more appearance upgrades and additional features. These include Automatic on/off LED headlamps with delay feature, chrome accents on the front and rear bumpers, black carbon metallic bodyside moldings, and a 120-volt power outlet. Available additions you can choose to upgrade to include Rainsense automatic wipers, automatic parking assist with braking, Bose premium audio system, ebony with ebony interior accents and leather-appointed seat trim, HD Radio, and in-vehicle air ionizer. Impressively, this all fits within the compact frame of the GX.

You won't regret going with this upgraded model. It offers the most advanced features in the range, from the best sound system, to state-of-the-art safety, enhanced driving and navigation, and appearance packages. Starting at $29,795 for the FWD, this premium small SUV offers a classy ride to get you where you need to go. Unlike the lower trims which have cloth and leatherette seats, Essence has leather-appointed seat trim. And, while all versions have a leather-wrapped steering wheel, only the Essence has it heated, so you might just need this version if you live in a cold climate.

Wherever you live, the Buick Encore GX is a well-appointed, classy, smaller SUV that can get you around town to do all your school, work, or leisure errands, and also takes you out on the open road for that dream trip you've been planning.
